Coach Jim Bennett

Coaching High School XC and Track and Field for the last twenty years, Jim Bennett has led runners to fast times, great team experiences and high levels of success against quality competition. Many of those years were served in Connecticut, where he led runners to All -League, All-Conference, All-State, and All-New England Honors.

Some of the greatest successes were off the track with the development of character, confidence and sportsmanship, which were hallmarks of his teams.  On the track, distance runners (boys) ran 8:38 (3k), which was US#5 at the time,  1:54 for 800m, repeated sub 10:00 2 mile performances, and 4:16 for the mile.  Average XC times for varsity were 16:00 - 17:10.  Current girls ran under 21:00 - 22:15 (over a 2 minute improvement in one season).

These results were indicative of hard work, smart training and quality rest.  Our premise is that quality work + quality rest = quality performance.  (We encourage one day off per week for recovery).

Coach Bennett also worked with 400 m runners to improve times into 50-51 sec. range (boys). Sprinters worked on speed, starts and form.

Other runners who were not as physically gifted saw vast improvements in their personal best performances, self-esteem and focus on integrity.
